Hi! My name is Jessica L. Simpson and my spiritual journey began while I was growing up in Southern Maryland. This spiritual journey was really a journey of self-discovery, and it enabled me to realize my passions in life, which are medicine, public health, and exploring! In May 2010, I graduated from the University of Maryland College Park, with a Bachelor of Science in General Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Community Health. While in college, I discovered that not only did I want to serve others as a physician, but also as a social justice advocate for my community, specifically minorities, women and children.

In August 2011, I attended the University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences, where I later became the President of the School of Public Health and served as a Senator on multiple boards of the Student Government Association. In May 2013, I earned a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Health Management and Health Behavior and presented a practicum regarding pharmacogenetics and health promotion in the hospital setting. Upon graduation, I was blessed to begin working for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a Public Health Scientist in epidemiology and public health surveillance. During that time, I published a CDC Data Brief as first author, responded to the 2014 Ebola Outbreak in Sierra Leone and learned how to integrate public health into a medical practice.

I worked at CDC for five years before I made the leap of faith to begin medical school at the age of 31. For me, it felt like the timing was right – I grew a lot along the journey to medical school, which I believe will help me to be the best student doctor that I can be – and hopefully I inspire others who have many dreams or a dream deferred, that they too know that it is NEVER too late to go after ALL your dreams! Our timelines may be different than what we and society expect. But, I learned that time is an illusion as Albert Einstein said; and when I surrender to God, I can see a glimpse of the bigger picture, the calling on my life. I’m thankful that in July 2017, I started medical school at my top choice institution, the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. I have the privilege to learn how to treat patient’s mind, body and spirit and this aligns perfectly with where I am now in my spiritual journey.

My greatest joy is serving others and for that reason, I am sharing my life lessons related to health with YOU, the reader, in order for YOU to live well in mind, body, and spirit. I also enjoy exploring and thus, I am sharing some of my traveling adventures with you. Hopefully, my stories inspire you to see a new world!

I hope you keep up with me, and subscribe to my blog, livingwellwithjessica.com, because everything I write is for YOU! πŸ™‚ Stay healthy friends! πŸ˜‰

With love,

Jessica L. Simpson, MPH
